Reno, Nevada is a nice small city compare to Houston. But we have to moved. Driving from Reno to California to visit Omar and family takes 2 1/2 hours. In the winter you are taking a risk of being caught in a snowstorm and that will strand you in California or strand you in the highway. So we decided to move. After 6 years in Reno, Nevada we began scouting for a house close to Pittsburg, Ca. Rio Vista is about 45 minutes southwest of Sacramento, 20 minutes from Pittsburg, 20 minutes from Lodi, 20 minutes from Fairfield. It is not close to anything like a mall or hospital but 20 minutes is not that bad. However there are several bridges and they are a pain in the ass. The RV bridge is a bottleneck because ship pass by and takes at least 30 minutes to raise the draw bridge, let the ship pass and bring it down again. Or it is in constant repair. There is another bridge going to Pittsburg with the same problem. And yet a third bridge, the Antioch bridge, but at least this one is not a drawbridge. That is the route going to Omar's house. That is going east. Going west is not a problem, no bridge. That is going to Ate Cora's house in Vallejo. Trilogy is a 55-and over community where we bought a house. There are around 3,500 houses which is a good size. The town of Rio Vista is tiny. There is one grocery store, a couple of motels, one pizza place, one chinese restaurant, one diner which is closed, a couple of car dealership, a church, post office. It is so isolated but quiet.
There are many Filipino families living in Trilogy. Perhaps 50 or more and all are over 50+. The nice thing about this place is our neighbors are nice and friendly. Clyde and Stephanie on our immediate right even pull up our garbage containers to help us. Roland, Cora, Lulu, Christina, Nicki, Nevi, Rey
Behind us lives Oscar and Lulu, Filipino guys. We have three couples that are close to us. Oscar and Lulu, Roland and Cora, Demos and Christina. I suppose we have something in common. We like to drink although Demos drink beer only, like to eat and like to sing. All of these folks have karaoke system in their house. Oscar is the best singer although Demos like to sing too. Lulu has a talent for cooking filipino desserts being a professional caterer. Having an afternoon nip. Roland,
Pol, Demos and Oscar.
Her desserts are better than you can buy at the store. Roland is the electronic expert where everybody seeks his advise. Oscar and Christina are accountants so on tax time one can ask advise from them. Me I am jack of all trades. They can ask me about how to repair or go about fixing something in the house. Oh another couple is Nevi and Rey, both doctor of medicine. They used to live in Rio Vista but they moved to Antioch. The reason is it is closer to Kaiser hospital. They are in their eighties and needed to be close to a facility in case of emergency. Something we need to think about in the future.
